Mahi Mahi. Dolphin fish. Dorado. Whatever you call them they are fun to catch and good to eat. In the Gulf of Mexico these fish grow fast, about 5” a month with a 5’ maximum length. It’s estimated that they live only two years then die. And amazing colors! I remember the first time I caught one we were trolling off Marathon in heaving seas. I held on to the rod as a bull rocketed out of the face of a wave and dove onto the bait. The image of that bright yellow fish profiled against the crystal blue water haunts me to this day.
You know you had a good day of fishing when you have to look up at the fish.
